The Dodge Magnum that were in my price range had the infamous 2.7L engine. Among the replies were the Dodge Magnum, Hyundai Elantra Touring, Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix and Kia Rondo. I entered my criteria in a query at and hoped to get some useful suggestions. Wagons were just about impossible to find or German, Swedish or complicated by 4 wheel drive. All of them lacked one major requirement: a special compartment for the dog. I also sampled a ’10 Chevrolet Malibu, an ’08 Mercury Milan and an ’07 Kia Amanti. I drove two of these and they were very much to my liking. I also toyed with the idea of getting a Lincoln LS V8. My excursions with the BMWs in Atlanta were fresh in my mind. I was looking forward being coddled with a smooth ride by an entry level luxury car. I made her (the African-American Queen) pay the vet, groomer and kennel bills. Within about 3 months I was walking the dog, taking him to the vet, buying the food, picking up his poop and teaching him a few commands. It was supposed to be our younger son’s dog and teach him all that responsibility. Everybody knew my answer would be: “No!” I knew exactly how this is going to work out. Still, there was no need for a vehicle this large even though the family expanded by one English Springer Spaniel.įor some peculiar reason I was never asked if I wanted a dog in our house. The boys have their own wheels and one of them has moved out, the other one had temporarily moved in again. The all-wheel drive and GT versions will be dropped after 2006 due to poor sales and new federal emissions standards, leaving only the base Vibe.2005 Pontiac Vibe.In 2013 it became obvious that the minivan era is over for our family. In an attempt to 'converge' the Pontiac look, the front grill was restyled to resemble the look of the Pontiac Solstice, also adopted by other vehicles in the Pontiac line. The front fascia was freshened in the 2005 model year. Engine power claims decreases to current levels for 2006, as a result of Toyota's re-testing of its engines for the new SAE ratings standard. Horsepower ratings for the first three model years were slightly higher, with the GT up to 180 hp, the base model rated at 130 hp, and the all-wheel drive model rated at 126 hp. The Vibe was first produced in 2002 and went on sale as a 2003 model. There have been some minor changes between model years. The Vibe is currently the most fuel efficient vehicle sold by GM in North America. Powertrains available for this car are a 1.8 L I4 16-valve engine producing 126 hp on the base model (manual or automatic transmission), 118 hp on the all-wheel drive model (automatic only), or a version with VVTL-i producing 164 hp for the GT (manual 6-speed only). The Vibe is available in an economical base model, a "sporty" GT trim with more power, or an all-wheel drive model. The car features a standard household-style 115 volt AC electrical outlet so that common electrical devices can be used inside the car without a separate inverter. Due to lack of capacity at the NUMMI plant in Fremont, the Matrix is produced at a Toyota plant in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. Toyota markets the same vehicle in North America as the Toyota Matrix. Prototypes were shown at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2000 and production vehicles came on the market in 2002 for the 2003 model year. It is a short and tall station wagon that is being marketed as a trendy, quasi-SUV vehicle for younger buyers. The Pontiac Vibe is a car produced in Fremont, California, in the United States by NUMMI (New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc), a joint venture between General Motors and Toyota.
